Residents and Fellows Gain Hands-On Experience in ASSET and ATOM Management

IRCAD North America recently hosted our pilot course, Advanced Strategies and Techniques for Operative Trauma, marking a significant milestone for our facility. The course brought together residents and fellows from the Carolinas Medical Center General Surgery program and Wake Forest School of Medicine, fostering collaboration among future surgical leaders.

Led by Dr. John Green, the comprehensive curriculum focused on the latest approaches in trauma management, with dedicated sessions on both ASSET (Advanced Surgical Skills for Exposure in Trauma) and ATOM (Advanced Trauma Operative Management). Participants benefited from hands-on training and expert lectures designed to enhance their operative skills and clinical decision-making in high-stakes trauma scenarios. Executive Director of IRCAD North America Dr. Dionisios Vrochides performed a robotic hepatectomy as an additional element of the pilot on day three of the course, testing equipment and audiovisual capabilities in the surgical ballrooms.

Adding an international perspective to the course, Dr. Antonello Forgione of IRCAD France visited Charlotte to observe the pilot program and share insights from the global IRCAD network. We look forward to opening our doors to national and international visitors this September, and shaping the future of surgery together.
